Each ETC program has a minimum recommended Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) score which is used to assess an individual's readiness to enter a particular training program. While TABE level is used as a standard guide to predict student success, a student's motivation, past experience and other circumstances may also be taken into consideration.

There are approximately three TABE exam sessions per month; each session is two hours in length. All test participants must bring a picture ID and have their social security number available. Tests will not be administered to anyone who does not bring a picture ID. A calculator is recommended. TABE placement scores are valid for one year.
